SHORA NEZA Project

In partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) under funding from the Mastercard Foundation, SHORA NEZA is a three-year project (2023–2026) being implemented in 15 Districts, namely Kamonyi, Muhanga, Ruhango, Nyanza, Huye, Nyamagabe, Nyaruguru, and Gisagara in the Southern Province; and Ngororero, Karongi, Rutsiro, Nyabihu, Rubavu, Nyamasheke, and Rusizi in the Western Province.

The project aims to create new and strengthen existing employment opportunities for young women and men aged 18 to 35 years, by enhancing food systems that promote inclusive job creation. Through the development of interlinked and efficient agricultural value chains, the project targets reaching 67,000 smallholder farmers and generating 9,000 jobs with 70% of which are designated for women.

Project Goal

To create new and strengthen existing employment opportunities for young men and women has introduced a new implementation and service delivery model known as Farmer Service Center (FSC).

Project Coverage

Kamonyi, Muhanga, Ruhango, Nyanza, Huye, Gisagara, Nyaruguru and Nyamagabe) and 7 districts of Western Province (Ngororero, Nyabihu, Rubavu, Rutsiro, Karongi, Nyamasheke and Rusizi).

Key Achievements

By 2024:

Strengthening the Food System:

Through 401 Farmer Service Centers (FSCs), 27,827 smallholder farmers received technical support, and were mentored and coached on good agriculture practices, market access and financial skills.

7,906 farmers were linked to farmer service centers and received agriculture services from 401 farmer service centers (FSCs).

9,483 youths employed through FSCs.

Market and Access to Finance:

361 FSCs gained access to reliable markets.
238 FSCs trained in financial inclusion and received loans through linkage.
