
GALS in PRISM: Gender Action Learning System (GALS) under the Partnership with the Resilient and Inclusive Small Livestock Markets (PRISM) Project
GALS-RDDP was a 3-year project (2021-2023) funded by IFAD and implemented by DUHAMIC-ADRI in Nyagatare, Rwamagana, Gatsibo, Kayonza, Gicumbi, Burera, Musanze; Nyabihu, Rubavu, Ngororero ,Rutsiro, Nyanza, Huye and Ruhango Districts.
Project Goal
To contribute to pro-poor national economic growth and to improve the livelihoods of resource-poor rural households, with a particular emphasis on food security, nutrition, and the empowerment of women and youth in a sustainable and climate-resilient dairy value chain.

Key Achievements
By 2024:
A total of 44 core team members, comprising 19Heifer staff, 12 SPIU staff, and 13 DUHAMIC staff, participated in an introductory workshop on GALS
A total of 549 GALS Champions (295 females and 254 males) were identified and mobilized across the targeted communities to facilitate GALS activities, and completed a 3-day training on five foundational GALS tools during community-level Change Catalyst Workshops .
A total of 5,557 SHG members, including 1,214 youth (22%), were reached by GALS Champions through community action learning (CAL) sessions
Open days were organized in collaboration with District authorities, showcasing project achievements, success stories, and best practices.
