Climate-Smart Agriculture and Market Development for Enhancing Livelihoods of Refugees and host-communities in Rwanda (Phase II)

Since July 2024, DUHAMIC-ADRI has partnered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) through a signed Partnership Framework Agreement (PFA) to implement Phase II of the Climate-Smart Agriculture and Market Development for Enhancing Livelihoods of Refugees and their Host Communities in Rwanda.

The Climate-Smart Agriculture initiative aims to improve food security and self-reliance for 2,036 beneficiaries (732 refugee and 1,304 host community households, including 1,091 women and 945 men).

Project Goal

By 2026, this project will benefit over 7,851 family members through climate-smart agricultural practices and a market development approach.

Key Achievements

BY 2024

-2,016 participants, including 722 refugees, received capacity building on climate-smart agriculture; good agriculture practices; post-harvest and handling techniques; asset management; and accessed.

-2 improved post-harvest facilities (maize drying sheds).Irrigation system was rehabilitated to support 556 cooperative members cultivating 13 hectares of the Nyabicwamba Marshland in Gatsibo District.

Flooding was controlled for over 70 ha of Mushishito Marshland in Nyamagabe District.

-2,016 participants, including 722 refugees, received capacity building on: business skills and financial literacy; cooperative management and basic IT literacy.

-869 livestock (pigs and goats)distributed to 446 households, including 222 from Nyabiheke refugee camp.
