
Developing Entrepreneurship and Literacy in Rwanda (DEAL)

Project Goal
The main objective is to enable 7,500 poor and vulnerable people, especially women and girls’ ilterate members of the VSL groups and other high potentiel women entrepreneurs to increase access to quality and equitable literacy services for 7,500 needy adult people in the Southern Province of Rwanda.

Nyanza, Huye, Gisagara and Nyamagabe Districts.
Key Achievements
By 2023
-2,805 participants enrolled as Literacy learners in four Districts of intervention
-2,798 (549 males and 2249 females) literacy learners seated for the final evaluation
-2782 succeeded the final evaluation
-28 literacy teachers were supported to supervise 56 literacy classes
by 2024
2,813 adult literacy learners graduated, facilitated by 28 trained literacy teachers
56 literacy classes were monitored to ensure that lessons were properly prepared by literacy teachers, and adult reading classes were equipped with 830 books of the REB curriculum.
