PVC-Pig Value chain
DUHAMIC-ADRI in partnership with World Vision Rwanda implemented the Pig Value Chain Project (PVC) as one of the four components of the THRIVE project. The PVC project is aiming at developing pig value chain in 4 districts.
The PVC project main objective was to develop the pig value to transform their pig farming activities into profitable market-oriented businesses by adopting the best pig rearing/farming practices to increase generated household incomes thus improving their livelihoods.
Project Goal
To support willing pig farmers to shift from rearing local and non-prolific pigs to improved ones.
Project Coverage
Burera, Huye, Gakenke, Gisagara, Gicumbi, Karongi, Nyamasheke, Ngororero, Rutsiro, Rulindo and Rusizi Districts
Key Achievements
- Supported access to insemination services (the project to support in semen supply and farmer responsible for semen purchase and payment of veterinary services): 1,436 pigs inseminated and 3,449 pigs inseminated using improved boars;
- 1,436 pigs artificially inseminated
- 2,572 pigs insured for death
- 62,625 pigs as pig distribution among pig farmers during the project cycle (% of achievement was 92,7% compared to baseline)
