Since June 2017, DUHAMIC-ADRI in partnership with CARE INTERNATIONAL funded by Access to Finance Rwanda have been implemented the 3-year PROFIFA Project “Promoting Financial Inclusion of Smallholder Farmers organized into VSLA Groups”. project that ended May 31st, 2020 the PROFIFA Project:”
Project Goal
The main goal of the project is to promote financial inclusion for Smallholder Farmers (Women and Youth) organized into savings groups and involved in maize, livestock and horticulture value chains.

Key Achievements
Targeted smallholder farmers: 120,000 in 7 districts namely Kayonza, Rwamagana, Nyamagabe, Huye, Gisagara, Rulindo and Gakenke,
-4,666 specialized farmer groups were organized in maize, horticulture, banana and small-livestock with 30 members
-Organized 4,666 saving groups (with 30 members per group) and trained on Saving methodology using VSLA approach (Voluntery Saving and lending associations);
-In collaboration with CARE International in Rwanda, DUHAMIC-ADRI trained 123,000 saving groups members on financial literacy and entrepreneurship development
-In collaboration with RAB and MINAGRI, the project provides 44,000 improved banana suckers covering 44 Hectares at 12 selected sites in 5 sectors of Gisagara district.
-55,000 small-holder farmers/saving groups members were linked formal financial service provider and get agriculture loan and other financial services resulted from the agreement between DUHAMIC-ADRI, MFIs and access to Finance Services.
-The project has equipped farmers in 5 sectors of Kayonza affected by severe draught with 12 watering pumps (including rain gun machine) to promote small scale-irrigation and the collaboration MINAGRI subsidized different agriculture inputs provided;
-In collaboration with private companies (UZIMA Chicken), the farmers accessed to improved chicken breeds using their savings and loan from financial institutions;
-59,500 farmers engaged in maize and horticulture in 7 districts of interventions were linked to buyers including AIF (African Improved Food); SOSOMA Industries, PRODEV, Garden Fresh, enterprise Urwibutso, Schools. to sell their produces and 75% of farmers already signed supplying and contract farming.
-240 young potential entrepreneurs (70 % women) received intensive mentorship program for job creation;
