KUNGAHARA PROJECT

Kungahara is a Project implemented by DUHAMIC-ADRI in partnership with CARE Austria, together with CARE International in Rwanda (CARE Rwanda). It is running between 1st January 2024 and the end of 2026. Funded by European Union and co-funded by the Austrian Development Agency.

Project Goal

To use a holistic set of interventions to enhance food systems in a sustainable manner, equipping women and youth farmers ‘groups and cooperatives within the selected environment and nutrition-sensitive value chains with the skills, connections, and support to improve production and access to markets, and as a result, nutritious food availability and increase its consumption.

Key Achievements

by 2024:
Smallholder Farmer Capacity Building:

-31,042 smallholders farmers were trained in good agriculture practices, post-harvest handling and balanced diet preparation, facilitated by 90 trained farmer promoters and 150 nutrition champions
-13,118 participants were supported to establish home gardens
-17,236 farmers were facilitated to access improved seeds through digital platforms.

Financial Support and Infrastructure:
-4,684 farmers were linked to microfinance institutions and accessed loans

-159 rainwater harvesting tanks were distributed for home garden irrigation and hygiene during cooking demonstration activities

-90 Community Giant Scoreboards were installed for promoting community nutrition and behavior change
